The Annie P. Ainsworth Memorial Library and the Cogswell Free Library have not been on the school ballot since 2003. Thus, both libraries are going on the Sandy Creek Central School District ballot on May 17, 2016, for a $30,000 increase in funding. This increase in funding would greatly aid in our rising operating costs as well as increase our programming and materials (books, DVDs, audiobooks, etc.) budget.
With additional funding, the Cogswell Free Library plans to increase its hours, update its equipment, and add programming.
With more funding, the Annie P. Ainsworth Memorial Library plans to increase its programming budget by 75% and its materials budget by 86%, bringing the materials budget to the standard recommended percentage of 10% of the total library budget. Currently, our materials budget only makes up 1.4% of the total library budget. Therefore, we need your support! Please VOTE!
Our current annual funding from the school ballot:
Annie P. Ainsworth Memorial Library: $12,000
Cogswell Free Library: $8,000
Current Total: $20,000
The increase in funding we propose:
Annie P. Ainsworth Memorial Library: $35,000 ($23,000 increase)
Cogswell Free Library: $15,000 ($7,000 increase)
Proposed Total: $50,000
$50,000 (current amount of $20,000 + the additional taxation of $30,000) per year in funding for the Annie P. Ainsworth Memorial Library and the Cogswell Free Library would cost a person with a $1,000 property assessment approx. 12 cents per year.
A person with a $100,000 property assessment would cost approx. $12.00 per year.
There will be a public information session at the Ainsworth Memorial Library on Monday, April 11th at 7:00 pm for a presentation on the school ballot and to address any questions, comments, or concerns.
